Overview
At Roots etc™, we keep our inventory lean to avoid overproduction and inflated prices, and to make premium leather goods more accessible. When we run out of on-hand stock, our most-loved items move to pre-order status.
By placing a pre-order, you’re guaranteeing your item in the next scheduled production. These Pre-Order Terms apply in addition to our Website Terms & Conditions and Returns & Refunds Policy.
How pre-orders work
Items marked as “pre-order” are not currently in stock. Pre-Order items will be produced in the next cycle once your order is confirmed. This made-to-order approach allows us to manufacture on demand, reduce waste, and maintain fair pricing.
Payment Options
We offer two ways to pay for pre-orders:
1. Full payment upfront: Paying upfront helps us do business differently, no overproduction, no excess stock, no unnecessary waste. It allows us to produce exactly what’s needed, support ethical manufacturing, and maintain fair pricing without cutting corners on quality.
Once your payment is confirmed, your order is locked in and will ship as soon as it’s ready. As a thank you for supporting this model, we may include a little surprise gift with your delivery, our way of showing appreciation for helping us keep things conscious.
2. Half Now, Half Later (50/50 split) payment:
If upfront payment isn’t the right fit, you can choose to split it. You’ll pay 50% at checkout, which secures your place in the production queue. The remaining 50% will be automatically charged to the same payment method 28 days after your order is confirmed.
For standard fulfillment (4–6 week delivery), you’ll receive a reminder email two days before the second payment is due.
If your item is ready earlier than expected, we may process the second payment immediately and notify you by email. In these cases, no advance reminder is sent, but if the early payment attempt fails, your order will remain in the system and the balance will be re-attempted on Day 28.
If the final payment still cannot be processed, your order will be cancelled. We’ll refund the balance of your deposit, retaining 10% of the full product price to cover production and administrative costs already incurred. This retention is a fair and reasonable approach consistent with our obligations under Australian Consumer Law.
Pricing
All prices are listed in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include GST where applicable. Shipping costs (if any) will be calculated at checkout.
Delivery Timelines
Pre-orders are typically dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks from the date your order is confirmed. If your item becomes available earlier:
Paid in full: Your order will ship immediately, and you’ll receive tracking details via email.
Half Now, Half Later (50/50 split) payment: We’ll notify you that your item is ready and we will immediately process the second payment. Once payment is received, we’ll dispatch your order.
If the second payment cannot be processed at that time, your order will be held until the scheduled 28-day payment date. For more detail, see the 50/50 Split Payment section above.
Delays & Availability
If we cannot fulfil your order within the expected 4–6 week timeframe, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. In most cases, your payment will be refunded in full and the order cancelled, unless we’ve agreed otherwise with you.
If we’re unable to supply your item at all, due to raw material shortages, production issues, or other unforeseen circumstances, we’ll get in touch and offer you a full refund or discuss alternative options if available.
Returns, Exchanges & Cancellations
Pre-orders are final once placed and cannot be cancelled or changed, as your item is produced specifically for you. However, once your order arrives, it’s still eligible under our Returns & Refunds Policy, just like any other purchase, provided it meets the usual return conditions.
Shipping & Partial Orders
Your item will ship as soon as it’s ready. If you’ve ordered multiple pre-order products, they may be sent in separate shipments depending on availability.
Pre-orders follow our standard Shipping Policy.
Rewards Points & Discount Codes
Rewards points and promotional discount codes can be applied to pre-orders (as long as the offer is valid at the time of purchase). Discounts are applied to the initial payment only.
Rewards points will be credited to your account once full payment has been received.
Communication
By placing a pre-order, you agree to receive updates regarding your order, including production updates, payment reminders and shipping notifications via the email address provided at checkout.
Policy updates
We reserve the right to update or modify this Pre-Order Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our processes or legal requirements. Any updates will take effect from the date they are published on our website.
If we make significant changes that materially affect your rights or obligations, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example, by email or via a notice on our website).
We recommend reviewing this policy before placing a new pre-order to ensure you are aware of the current terms.
Limitation of Liability
We make every effort to meet expected timelines, but we are not responsible for delays caused by circumstances beyond our control, including shipping disruptions, customs delays or supplier issues.
If we are unable to fulfil your order, our liability is limited to refunding any amounts you have paid.
Governing Law
This policy is governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.

Because we believe in thoughtful consumption. We don’t overproduce allowing us to avoid waste and keep our retail prices affordable. More importantly, we know our bag is going to someone who will really value it.
